INGUINAL HERNIA.

 INTRODUCTION.

This is when there is protrution of an internal content through a weak wall. This can happen anywhere in the body but there are some areas which are commonly affected with hernia. The following are some common hernia.

  • Inguinal hernia
  • Umbilical hernia
  • Femoral hernia
  • Incisional hernia
  • Cerebral hernia. (rare in Foramen magnum)

INCIDENCE OF HERNIAL

Mostly hernia affects men due to variation in works and bodys structures (Processus vaginalis)

Men have procesus vaginalis a hole where the testes use to descend during embryology. When this canal pasist makes a risk of hernia. Majority affected are children under five with this cause. When this occur to them is called Indirect Hernia.

Adults are affected with hernia if there is weak area in the wall containing the contents. The body builders have higher risk of having hernia due to the weakness forms in the walls of the abdomen and other parts of the body.

Major forms of (Inguinal hernia) hernia are:-

  • Direct hernia (Older affected)
  • Indirect Hernia (affects children)

Differential diagnosis of Inguinal Hernia

  • Femoral hernia
  • Inguinal bubos
  • Tendonitis
  • Lymbphogranuloma venerium

MANAGEMENT.

  • diagnosis of  hernia is almost clinicaly but some investigations are required in preparation for difinitive managements.
  • Ultrasound of the abdomen to rule out Intestinal obstruction in Ritcher's hernia.
  • haemoglobin estimation
  • grouping and cross matching
  • antipains
  • antibiotics postoperatively

SURGICAL INTERVATIONS

Prevent it by avoiding strenous activities which creates the weakness in walls.
